Trail of the Valley of Lakes: Between lakes and Vosges mountain ridges
Trail of the Valley of Lakes: Between lakes and Vosges mountain ridges

Created in 2008 in Gérardmer, in the Hautes-Vosges, the Trail de la Vallée des Lacs has established itself over the years as one of the major trail running events in France. Held every year in early July in Xonrupt-Longemer, it attracts thousands of runners who come to experience an adventure that is as demanding as it is spectacular.
What makes this event so special is its exceptional natural setting: the trail runs through the Vosges mountain range, alongside mountain lakes (Gérardmer, Longemer, Retournemer), climbs the slopes of Hohneck, and winds its way through deep forests, open moorland, and steep-sided valleys. The route changes slightly each year, but remains true to the very essence of the mountain range: technical, physical, and spectacular.
The trail is also renowned for the quality of its organization, its warm atmosphere, the passion of its volunteers... and for being a real challenge, both for elite runners and amateurs alike.
Different distances, for all profiles.
The Trail de la Vallée des Lacs offers seven race formats, suitable for all levels, with routes crossing the iconic landscapes of the Hautes Vosges.
- Grand Trail – 82 km / 4,200 m elevation gain The Grand Trail is the flagship event, reserved for seasoned runners. Participants will face steep climbs and technical descents, with breathtaking panoramic views.
- Trail Relay – 82 km / 4,200 m elevation gain (in pairs) This event follows the same route as the Grand Trail, but is run in pairs. It is an excellent option for those who want to experience the Grand Trail as a team, while discovering the varied landscapes of the Vosges.

- La Naturelle de Marie – 13 km / 700 m elevation gain This race is dedicated to women, in tribute to Marie, a trail running enthusiast who passed away too soon. The course, starting from Lake Longemer, winds through the forests and peaceful trails of the Vosges. It is a friendly and supportive event, open to all, regardless of their trail running experience.
- Mini-Trail – 2.5 km The Mini-Trail is designed for young runners who want to discover trail running. The secure, supervised course offers a first experience of running in nature, with sections in the forest and fun passages.
